Tracking data on carbon usage to optimize outcomes
Digital Carbon is an effort to use data visualizations to change personal behaviors and identify opportunities to streamline usage. Power readings from a computer’s power cable are correlated with software usage statistics to produce an initial dataset. That dataset is translated into carbon usage statistics depending on user location and is delivered to a desktop app. At the personal level, the carbon statistics viscerally show the impact of our software usage. At the company level, the most power-intensive applications can be identified and mediating measures can be created.
