Reimagining a hospital in a sequence of designs

This project was a direct response to a California state initiative that required all hospitals in the state to be retrofitted to withstand earthquakes. The renovations, including a new 5-story bed tower, were completed while keeping the hospital fully operational over a period of six years. A wide variety of program types are relocated and repurposed across the campus, and the design process involved interviews with all relevant user groups to understand their critical needs.
