Transforming a shopping mall into a mixed-use complex

With big-box retail on the decline, the shopping mall CambridgeSide decided to reinvent itself by converting the enormous floor plates of the department stores into high-rise mixed-use towers. In the BIM model, laser scans of existing conditions combine with a series of potential layouts for the towers. This allowed for rapid responses to the competing demands of owners, the community, current tenants, and future tenants.
