Robotic fabrication of complex architectural forms
This robotically fabricated, nail-laminated timber structure served as the Perkins + Will booth at the 2018 Greenbuild Expo. An input surface is divided into the required assembly, with each element organized in the order it will be placed. The assembly data is fed directly into the robot, which was outfitted with a vacuum gripper, a chopsaw, and a nail gun. The precision and flexibility of robotic construction means designs can be optimized down to the millimeter based on an infinite range of inputs.
